Cameras In Action Photographers Club

HomeWelcome to the CIA Photographers Club Website!Jan 15, 2007
Cameras In Action is a photo club based in the Philippines. Shooting together since 2001, the CIA is one of the member clubs under the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation Inc. (FPPF).

Cameras In Action started out as a brainchild of Master Photographer, Ibarra Deri back in the last months of the year 2000 during the last batch of seminars of the FPPF (Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation) for that year. Back then, Deri engineered plans of making a new group of photographers. Unlike other groups who are already well established and have produced known photographers in the industry, this one in Deri’s mind was to be formed by an “all-newbie” group of photographers. He’s goal – to make a formidable group who will grow together at the same level, catering mostly to entry-level enthusiasts, molding them to top-caliber artists. Hence, C.A.N.O.N. Club was born.

Having its first formal meet on February 25, 2001, C.A.N.O.N. Club, whose acronym reads – Concerned Artists Nurturing On Nature Photographers Club, elected their first set of officers namely: Jim Giron (President), Stanley Ong (Vice President), Ching Fabian (Secretary), Natalie Amaro (Treasurer), Ivan Santos (Auditor), Anson Hao (P.R.O.), Antony Arellano (Board Member), Nikko Taytay (Board Member), and Dean Medrano (Board Member).

Having Ibarra Deri as Club Adviser, the C.A.N.O.N. Club started out simply, having its meetings at the Fort Santiago benches in their first months as a group. Their first activity was on March 2001, the C.A.N.O.N. Club Corregidor OTS. This activity paved way for more assignments and projects for the club like the Philippine Fashion Week 2001, Calatagan OTS, and the Biak-Na-Bato OTS. Eventually as the club grew, the first Sunday meetings were moved to a much bigger and comfortable place at the PBSP Building in Intramuros.

In November 2001, the C.A.N.O.N. Club was invited to its first major exhibit through the CANON CAMERA WEEK. Sponsored and presented by CANON CAMERAS, the club showcased its best works at the Glorietta Mall in Makati, making history as one of the youngest club ever to be invited and be an exhibitor in such an event. Truly a very impressive feat for a club, who’s barely less than a year old.

On its second year, a lot of changes have been made. Due to the members hunger and interests on other forms of photography, the club has decided that the name Concerned Artists Nurturing On Nature (C.A.N.O.N.) no longer serves its purpose. Since the club was now growing and interests in other fields of photography is swiftly dwelling in all of the members. The club decided to have a name change, this time a name that caters not only to Nature and Landscape photography, but to photography as a whole and in general, thus the name CAMERAS IN ACTION emerged.
